Woman Thrown in Jail After Lawn Care Complaint

Tuesday November 11, 2008

There's something inherently disturbing about these stories of people going to jail because of the condition of their lawn.

The most recent one I stumbled on is about a woman who had a complaint filed against her for not mowing her lawn. She paid the fine, but not the $35 office fee which, over time, ballooned into $325. Eventually, a judge ordered a warrant for her arrest. Four years later she gets pulled over on a routine traffic violation and is thrown in jail...because of her un-mowed lawn!!

Parker later found out that she was arrested because she didn't mow her lawn.

Parker lived in Barrow County four years ago and a neighbor complained because the grass in her yard was excessively high.

To be arrested and put in jail because of the condition of your lawn is just plain wrong. I'm all for a nice looking lawn, but jail is certainly not the place for people who don't maintain their lawn.
