Get the last of the leaves before it's too late

Sunday November 16, 2008

A lot of rain and strong winds over the weekend, helped get those last, stubborn leaves off the trees so we can do the final clean-up of the season. Oak leaves are always the last to fall and they are very tough and notoriously difficult to mulch, so it's best to try and blow them somewhere or make piles and pick them up.

If at all possible, try and go into the winter with a clean yard. Leaves left on the ground will cause yellowing of the grass underneath and are sure to be wet, matted, and heavy in the spring. Lingering piles of leaves can also attract unwanted insects, weeds, lawn diseases and they're unsightly and smelly. Get out there before the snow flies or they probably won't get picked up until the spring, leaving less time for spring activities.

What are you waiting for?
