It's been hot and dry here lately. Some parts of the state are imposing watering restrictions and a drive around the area will quickly reveal dry, yellow turf, and parched soil. Drought conditions are here.
All too often, lawns get singled out first because of their high visibility and obvious need for water. Unfortunately, most lawns are either improperly watered or over-watered, so the lawn gets demonized because it is poorly managed.
It's easy to presume sprinkler systems are wasting water when they are not adjusted right and spray the road more than the grass, or running in the middle of the day. The truth is, a well tuned sprinkler system, running in the pre-dawn hours, is an efficient and water-wise way to irrigate a lawn. Hand-watering is a far more wasteful use of water.
A well managed lawn will survive on much less water than normally required. A dense root system, healthy soil, and conservative watering habits will allow most lawns to pull through extended periods without rainfall.
Choosing the right grass species for your region is also very important. Some species are more drought tolerant and better suited to arid regions that may suffer from drought or water restrictions.

It’s true. It is so important to be sure to use your sprinkler systems appropriately. The road does not need to be watered!
Also, we can’t forget the guidelines for the different areas and when it is appropriate to water the lawn.
