A good lawn mower, when well maintained, will provide many years of service. However, occasionally, they just don't want to work right. Throttle cables break, carburetors get gummed up, maybe it won't start, or it starts but sounds lethargic.
Troubleshooting is the best way to get to the bottom of a lawn mower problem. Some simple troubleshooting can be the difference between figuring something out on your own, or giving money to someone to do it for you.
Granted, the problem may be bigger than you are able to fix, but chances are it's something simple. Troubleshooting prevents costly trips to the repair shop, saving you money.
Beyond troubleshooting, preventative maintenance like oil changes and proper winterization will help a lawn mower age gracefully.
