The best thing about Mr. Magic Premium Ice Melt is that it works! It is easily among the best ice melt products I have used. It works fast and has a great residual effect, preventing further ice from forming and melting snow as it falls. The orange coloring is an added bonus, allowing you to see exactly where it's been applied.
The product stays behind long enough to melt a significant amount of ice and can be effective through a moderate storm. Repeated use can result in a white dry residue like rock salt, as opposed to the slimy brine of magnesium or calcium chloride.

The beauty of Mr. Magic Premium Ice Melt is that it contains all five common ice melting compounds and it seems to adopt the best characteristic of each one. Potassium chloride, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and sodium chloride coated with CMA all combine to be the most effective de-icer that I've ever used.
Potassium chloride is the "greenest" of the chlorides and is ultimately a fertilizer, but is costly. Magnesium and calcium chlorides are very effective at low temperatures but leave behind a slimy residue. The simple effectiveness of rock salt (sodium chloride) is enhanced with a coating of CMA which helps prevent new snow from sticking.
The orange coloring is especially convenient. Untold savings are incurred by putting down exactly the right amount of product to work effectively. More is not better and can be harmful to the environment while not enough may result in slippery, dangerous walks.
