The Bottom Line

This tool may be handy in the garden, but I love using it for preparing soil for seeding. It's three sets of intermingled tines are removable, allowing for 1"-6" width. It rips through topsoil, even hardpan, with little effort. The Garden Cultivator turns the hardest part of re-seeding into a simple, quick task.

Pros
  • Easily loosens soil, saving time and effort
  • More effectice than raking
  • Aluminum handle is light weight and sturdy
  • Less strain on the back
Cons
  • Keep it away from kids. Tines are sharp and potentially dangerous.
Description
  • Adjustable handle can extends from 38" to 55"
  • Aluminum handle resists rust
  • Detachable tines for varying width
Guide Review - The Garden Cultivator by Hound Dog

I always use this tool when preparing a seed bed. With little downward pressure, The Garden Cultivator grinds through the top several inches of soil. Repeated back-and-forth tilling, breaks the soil up even more and pulls up any weeds. I add some compost or loam and run the tool through it again to blend it all together then add seed.

There really isn't a tool that can do this as easy and quickly as The Garden Cultivator. Before this tool, re-seeding patches of lawn was a bit of a chore. Now, it's a footnote in my lawn care routine.
