Obama and the Green Industry

Sunday November 9, 2008

Several issues featured prominently in Barack Obama's campaign, cross directly over into the green industry. Whether it's how the economy will affect the lawn care and landscape industry or how immigration will affect the supply of labor to these industries, the Obama administration could have a great influence on the future.

Lawn & Landscape Magazine has an online article about what President-elect Obama can do for the green industry. Heather Wood Taylor has penned Five Green-Industry Action Items for President Obama, detailing five specific areas of the industry that need attention. The five action items include, the economy, labor, immigration, industry standards, and healthcare.

Until energy saving light bulbs, environmentally friendly cleaners, and biodegradable garbage bags completely commandeer the use of the term "Green Industry", it is firmly in the realm of things that grow and their ancillary services. It is this "Green Industry" that is of specific concern to me and other lawn and landscape professionals. For some, the future of their businesses depend on swift and certain decisions to be made by the upcoming administration.
