The lawn is brown and dried-up. The only thing green is the crabgrass, which will soon over-take the whole lawn. Even if you follow the tried and true lessons of how to deal with your lawn in a drought, the ravages of summer can still take their toll. July and August can be absolutely brutal on a lawn and sometimes every trick in the book might not be enough.
What are we going to do about it? Nothing. Not yet anyway. The best thing to do is to let August go by and don't sweat the lawn. Crabgrass will die off once the frost season begins and it's still too hot to sow seed with any real success. So just wait a few weeks. Rest up though, because there's lots of work to be done in the fall.
Fall is great. The days are shorter, the air is cooler, and the conditions are just right for germinating seed. Get ready to topdress, overseed, fertilize, aerate, dethatch and generally get your lawn ready for next season. Fall is the time of year to do all the things that everyone tries to do in the spring time. So rest now, there will be plenty to do real soon.
